tested colors from this activity I learned how easy it was to make the color that you needed for a piece. I never realized that you could step outside of the basic colors that come in paint bottle it you didn't have that color in a bottle. When mixing and doing this activity I figured out how to make new colors that I didn't realize I could do. brown swatches Brown is made by mixing orange and blue to create different types of brown light and dark you may add white and black. painting over picture.

My piece shows off the theme of "line" in a couple of ways. The barn had several lines in it that are the all of the pieces of wood on the barn. I've also got lots of lines to add details to the Clio, and added lines in the sky as cloud detail. I feel my piece is successful because it turned out looking what a barn should look like. You wouldn't be able to mistake this piece for something other than a barn scene and I was able to add a lot of details to make that even better. If I were to change anything about this piece I think it would actually be on my lines. I had a hard time making my lines straight when cutting them out of the block and you can definitely tell in the piece. Some of the lines are thinner and thicker, and that's just because I wasn't able to get them cut straight.
With my piece I plan to fix some of the uneven clay pieces and remove the small pieces of clay that the piece is relying on. The top of the piece is not even with the actual box so I would like to even it out. I would also like to get rid of the tiny pieces of clay stuck in my cutouts and on the top and bottom. I would like to paint my piece Red and yellow to make it bright and happy like he suns carved into it. The most difficult things so far for this project was getting all the clay to work together because some of it would be really wet, or really dry, or in the middle and that made it harder to use. The pieces will always fall apart if crack if I don't have them at the perfect amount of moisture. I find that carving for me is the most successful part and that it has been what makes my piece look the best. All of my carvings have been what I'm most proud of and best at. when starting this piece I rolled out 4 pieces of slab to begin with. After rolling out my slab I began to cut out my 4 squares evenly for the walls of my box and scratch and slipped them together. After I was done putting all of my pieces together including the lid and bottom it was ready to fire. I first sent my piece in to get a bisque fire so that it could get its first firing and once I got it back I painted it and was able to send it to get its greenware firing.
My mentor is Isabelle Isabelle makes mostly pottery and sculpture related artwork. I think I will benefit from this because she knows a lot more than I do about how to start and fix art so if I have any questions about what to do with my piece she will be able to help guide me in the right direction. I would like to learn more about how she got into art and where she is now because I'm not much of an artist so I think it's interesting to hear from people who are very talented.
hue value scale most helpful warmup- texture with paint. finished piece. The place represented in this piece is a volcano. This volcano picture was taken in Hawaii and is important because it reminded me of a picture my uncle used to have in his house and he was very important to me. He passed away a few years ago so I thought the picture was cool because it was similar to what he had. What I found most challenging about he photograph I picked was that it dosent have much shape to it. Most of my painting was blending the colors and photo together and not drawing out much of a real shape. I believe the most successful part of my piece is the colors because I was able to create and blend some pretty colors. The process of my painting took a long time. I had to try and draw shapes in the beginning but there aren't many in the painting so I was struggling with starting the painting. I was stuck for a while in trying to get the base down but after I blended some of the base together it looked a lot better. After I was done with the base the rest was simple I just blended lots of pink and orange colors together to come up with a very light color combination with a bold bit of black.
